Christians and Athiest: Why can't we all get along?

I am an Atheist and my best friend is a hard core Mormon. And we get along perfectly well. Sure debates ensue but we respect each other's beliefs. Why other Christians and Atheist do so as well? Why must we all fight and bicker? The underlying question is. Why can't we all get along?
