Responsorial psalm question?

At our parish, only the readings and Gospel are announced by the lectors and priest, respectively. The versicle of the responsorial psalm is sung by a cantor. The congregation then answers with the response. Ordinarily it is unnecessary to say, "The response is..." . However, you might want to check with your priest just to make sure, since you indicate that this is your first time to do this. Good luck and God Bless.
